What are signs of traumatic brain injuries?

On Behalf of | Jul 24, 2023 | Personal Injury |

After getting into a car crash, it is not impossible that you may suffer from a brain injury of some sort.

Identifying traumatic brain injuries serves as one of the most important ways to get proper medical care as quickly as possible.

Physical signs

Mayo Clinic discusses traumatic brain injuries in car crash victims. These injuries tend to manifest in two primary forms: physical and emotional signs.

The most common physical signs usually involve the senses. For example, someone’s sense of taste or smell could seem off. Blurry vision serves as one of the most common disturbances, along with light flashes and other visual issues.

Tinnitus, or a ringing in the ears, also often occurs after a hit to the head.

On top of that, many head injury victims will experience a headache that worsens or stays the same over time. It is not uncommon for victims to struggle with mobility and fine motor skills, either.

Emotional signs

Other signs come in the form of emotional disturbances. The most common? When a TBI victim ends up lashing out at others, especially when coupled with confusion.

Many TBI victims will respond with aggression to situations or things that normally do not inspire aggression within them.

Confusion also serves as a common indicator, along with the inability to process stress. This can lead to victims breaking down during situations they could normally handle.

On a whole, any of these signs should indicate to those nearby that the person is in need of immediate medical care for a head injury.
